Let’s talk about about De Beers, Botswana, market trends and fine jewelry!

Marianne Riou

Dear readers,

This week’s Lettre is packed full of exciting information!

Among other things, we have published the rich and engaging discussion between Bruce Cleaver, outgoing CEO of De Beers Group, and Lefoko Moagi, Botswana’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, interviewed by Edhan Golan, at the AWDC’s Facets 2022 conference. All three participants raise issues which concern us all and ask questions about the industry’s future. The discussion therefore examines how diamond revenues can benefit local people and communities at a socio-economic level, valuation in Botswana, the agreement currently being finalized between the De Beers Group and the Botswana government, smart mining, changing in times of crisis, storytelling, ESG, transparency & ethics, the KP and, finally, the place of natural and synthetic diamonds. A frank conversation between players who are campaigning openly for a diamond industry that is sustainable and enduring.

We also continue our series on fine jewelry collections and this time we turn our attention to the designs of Bvlgari, Pomellato and Cartier, which celebrate the beauties of nature and the world. As, regardless of where we are in the value chain, we all share the emotion that arises from admiring pieces of fine jewelry of incomparable grace and beauty.

Happy reading and enjoy your week.
