RJC names Edward Asscher as vice chairman

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has appointed World Diamond Council (WDC) president Edward Asscher as vice chairman at its first in-person board meeting since the start of the pandemic.

In addition to serving his second term as head of the WDC, Asscher, who was elected at the October 6 meeting in London, is the founder of the Royal Asscher Diamond Company, the RJC said Tuesday [November 1st]. He was also vice president of the European Council of Diamond Manufacturers and president of both the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA) and the International Diamond Council (IDC).

I trust that my long experience serving the industry will contribute to meeting [the RJC’s] goals and those of its members,” said Asscher. “In particular, I am committed to RJC’s inclusivity. As president of the World Diamond Council, I am well aware of the challenges involved in representing all participants in our industry.

Meanwhile, the RJC appointed Marianne Zani, director of development and sourcing for watches and fine jewelry at Chanel, to its board at the meeting.
