Diamond Services developed a new mini Raman spectrometer that it says is able to detect synthetic and color-treated diamonds and gemstones falsely presented as diamonds. The device will be unveiled at the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair in September.
- The desktop-size device will provide individual diamond and jewelry companies that same technology previously used exclusively by gemology labs to detect synthetic diamonds.
- The spectrometer is able to accurately detect diamonds grown using high-pressure-high-temperature (HPHT) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) techniques, HPHT color-treated diamonds and diamond simulants.
- The spectrometer system is now undergoing final testing and 40 units have already been ordered on spec.
Diamond Services is a Hong Kong-based company founded by current-president Joseph Kuzi in 2012. The company is committed to releasing one new synthetic diamond detection device per year.
