J. Lo and the return of the classic wedding ensemble

As celebrity wedding influencers go, Jennifer Lopez is in a league of her own.

Not only did she almost single-handedly place pink diamonds on the bridal map back in 2002, when Ben Affleck proposed (for the first time) with a $2.5 million, 6.1 ct. pink diamond ring by Harry Winston, she also made waves earlier this year with her second engagement ring from Affleck, an 8.5 ct. modified cushion-cut  that’s poised to ignite a green flash among brides-to-be.

On Aug. 20, at a wedding ceremony at Affleck’s home in Riceboro, Ga., on Hampton Island Preserve, J. Lo did it again, this time with a lavish ensemble of jewels that’s sure to kick off another trend. But wedding watchers hoping the bride might champion an offbeat or unconventional look—even by adding just a dash of color—were surely disappointed. The new Mrs. Affleck accompanied her trio of white custom-made Ralph Lauren wedding dresses with a collection of white pearl and white diamond pieces that were as classic as classic gets.

For the ceremony, J. Lo chose a cathedral-length veil and custom Ralph Lauren turtleneck column gown set with more than 1,000 handkerchiefs designed to lend the dress a dramatically ruffled look. She accessorized with a $53,000 pair of pearl and diamond drop earrings and matching $39,000 ring by Mikimoto.

For her second look, J. Lo changed into a spectacular hand-embroidered gown embellished with faux pearls and Swarovski crystals. She kept the pearl and diamond ring but switched out the earrings with simpler Prestige pearl studs.

The bride saved the most dramatic jewels for last. She paired her third custom Ralph Lauren dress, a sleek mermaid gown with a removable hood and a keyhole neckline embellished with Swarovski crystals, with $2 million worth of bling by New York diamond dealer Samer Halimeh, whose 27 ct. one-of-a-kind floral diamond earrings added the requisite touch of glitz.
