Christie’s sells 51 carat diamond for $5.6M

Christie’s sold $51 million worth of jewelry at its Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on Wednesday, with the event led by a diamond ring that fetched $5.6 million.The auctioneer sold the rectangular, 51.35-carats, D-color, VVS1 diamond for $108,423 per carat. It had been estimated at $5 million to $7 million.

A cushion-cut, 75.41-carat sapphire ring went for $3.8 million, falling within its pre-sale guidance of $3 million to $5 million.

A total of 13 items fetched more than $1 million each. Among these were a cushion modified brilliant-cut, 22.72-carat, D-color, internally flawless diamond ring by Leviev, which sold for $2.6 million, or $116,527 per carat. Another of the more expensive items was a pear brilliant-cut, 29.01-carat, F-color, VVS2-clarity Harry Winston diamond flanked by three tapered baguette-cut diamonds, which found a buyer at $1.9 million, or $66,443 per carat.
